Rustling Leaves, Restless Dreams

Oil on Linen. This was painted during the very hot summer on a ranch in Central California. I attempted to infuse the painting with that heat in the colors and haze of the background to give the painting that sweltering buzz you might feel in the heat of a summer day. I contrasted the rustic landscape with a figure surrounded by luxurious textiles to create a dream-like impression. The magpies add to the symbolism of the dream state and should encourage the viewer to create a story of who they think the girl is, what her relationship to the birds are, and what she might be dreaming about.
